The first day of summer is astronomically June 20th and meteorologically June 1st. To me, summer began two weeks ago when I pulled all of my shorts out of a storage bin for the first 80 degree day of the year. For most, though, summer starts this weekend, now that spring semesters are over and we’re in the midst of the first long weekend. Your summer can start whenever you want it to, but once it does, you'll need to know where to get the most essential food of the season: ice cream.
The Perfect City Ice Cream Map is both a guide you can read through and an actual map you can save to your own Google Maps. I was never very interested in shared Google Maps until a friend showed me his New York map that he sends to friends who are visiting. It was really fun to scroll through all of the places and read his short blurbs about each one. This is just like that, with the addition of layers you can turn off and on based on what kind of ice cream you’re on the hunt for. Just like the column below, the map is broken down into the categories I personally think about ice cream in: restaurant ice cream, scoops, soft serve, exceptional pints, and some cups and cones outside of NYC. If you’re taking trips upstate, or to Maine, Philly or Utah… you might be in luck. You can save the map at the end of this guide.
Have fun with these keys to all of the most wonderful places in New York City to eat ice cream.
